Cognos express capabilites

Hello guys,
I have a huge flat file that contains 2 different types of record, will need some minor transformation , filter some of the record, separator is percentage character.
I would like to know if I can achieve this with Cognos Express alone (reading the file, minor transformation and filter) or will I need to do some ETL job and load in a DB before developing the report ?

My advice would be to use Architect to bring the data into a cube in Express (using the embedded TM1 technology Express has) and build your reports off this.
