Hi,

A layout component reference can refer to any part of the report layout - not just headers and titles. The key is to give each object you want to reuse a name. Once you do this, it will be available to select in your layout component reference.

Once you've created a report you can't switch the template that it uses (or if you can I haven't found a way). I'd create a new report using the template that you want, then copy the elements from the old report to the new one.

In terms Layout Component References, you have to name the items in your report before you can reference them (makes sense when you think about it). You can certainly reference footers, tables, images etc., but only after you've names them. As many people here far more intelligent than me have said, you can create a "library" report with lots of elements on it that you can bring into subsequent reports.

Hi,

You might want to read this and see if this could work for setting up a template.
I tried to set this up one time, but I was kinda rookie at that time so it failed. I havent tried again though. Might give it a try?

Hi CognosBen & Morfeusz,

In this solution have 4 parts.

1. Create a report specification for the template

2. Add a custom report template to the templates.xml file

3. Provide an icon for the template

4. Add the custom template information to the Resources.xml

I cleared 1 & 3 in correct manner. When i move second & fourth part solution i face some problems.

In 2nd part need to add custom template  to template.xml file. The instruction is file located in c10_location\webcontent\pat\res directory. Unfortunately I don't have that name of xml file.

In 4th part as same problem Resource.xml file not exist from that directory.

For your information my directory location is C:\Program Files\IBM\Cognos BI Developer Trial\FM\webcontent\pat\res

Please correct me.

Thanks & Regards,
Chandrasekar.

Hello,

The resources.xml and template.xml shouldn't be located there . Usually you don't have write access in Program file folder, so in IIS are setup another path to that folder. Please check with your IT admin.
