New Report Template

Hi

I am trying do a template in report studio, if i open a New Report Template, it shows metadata not available in insertable objects. (i am using 8.4 version. ) what should i do to get a metadata? Please give me your suggestions.

Hi magic,
u need to import the package, just click "Change Report Package" in upper left corner of the source section, and select required package , then u can see the metadata into insertable objects .
see the attachment , i have shared with u.

By definition, as template is not related to the metadata...you can use the same template for lots of different packages. In fact, you create a report using the metadata then save it as a template, it will drop the metadata in the saved template.

I think some people become confused about reports with layout component references that serve as templates, but they really are just reports whereas true templates are what Chris has explained. One key difference between the two approaches is that a report authored from a template will not change later if the template is changed. A report using layout component references will change if the underlying components are later modified.
