I have to nest region and years in category of column chart.

I have to have first regions nested ,then Years .

I drag both region and year data item in to categories of a column chart.

SO they dont appear one below other, instead first region and then years in the same line.

Is it possible to nest them like shown below in x axis.

East West  East West
FY2014     FY2015

Thanks,
Nithya

Hi All,
If I add nested rows in category , still it doesnt nest rather comes as additional values in x axis.
But there is one sample report showing the values nested in categories for chart.

Please let me know if there is a way to set the nesting working.

Thanks,
Nithya

Unless I'm misunderstanding, the example you're posting here is simply Year as the Categories and Region as the Series?

Hi,

In that case you're not making your requirement clear. What does "nested" mean? What are you expecting to see? The text you added earlier looks like you want groupings of columns (for years) on the x axis and columns for each region clustered within each year? If so, adding Year to the Categories and Region to the series will provide exactly this.

Here are two examples of charts using the same data. The first has Region in Series. The second has Region nested within Year in Categories. Are either of these what you require?

Yes the second one , I had mentioned like
East West   East West
FY2014       FY2015

in x axis

. How were you able to nest the region with in year in categories as shown in your second chart..

Just dragging both data items in to categories doesnt give me the output.

Thanks,

First drop the Year item into Categories.

Then drag Region and drop it just below Year in the Categories area - look for the drop zone you see below:

Once you let go, Region appears below and indented from Year in the Categories area:

Thanks a lot MFGF, I tried this and it worked in normal charts. But the next question is I tried the same in rave visualization chart but was not able to drop one item below other. Is it a limitation in rave visualization chart.

Thanks,
Nithya

Visualizations are completely different - they support only the structures they are designed to handle. This means you can't nest items in a visualization as you do with a chart. To get the same effect in a visualization would require the vizJSON code of the visualization to be modified to allow this (ie you would need to re-write the visualization).

Cheers!
