We just upgraded to version 10.2.1 (fix pack 3). Can the RAVE Visualizations be used in report studio and run as a non-active report? I do not have experience in active reports and mainly use report studio when authoring reports. When I tried to pull in a new pie chart, it would not return any data. It would also not allow be to format any of the data items or colors. Is this a known case for RAVE Visualizations?

You can use it in report studio, but you will not be able to modify colors and other formatting. They are built in codes , you can pass data values to the controls.

Thanks,

Hi,

As long as you are on 10.2.1 FP1 or above, you can use Visualizations in "normal" reports as well as in Active Reports. You can use them in Cognos Workspace Advanced too.

In 10.2.1 the visualizations are somewhat restrictive in terms of what data they allow and (as nithya stated) in terms of palettes/properties etc.

If you use a visualization that has two descriptive data inputs and one measure input (for example), you can't use it if you provide only one of the descriptive items and the measure. You have to fill in all the data fields. Once done, you can add "extra" measures and categories, but not less than the number of fields the visualization has. In this respect, charts are currently more flexible in that they will work if (say) you don't provide a value for Series. Charts also allow multiple properties to be modified within the report, such as the palette.

I'd be interested to understand why your pie visualization did not return any data. Did you specify values for all the fields? It the issue something you can replicate using one of the sample packages?
