Hi

We are facing an issue
Users which were migrated from Windows 8 to 8.1 or freshly hired with a new laptop and Windows 8.1 encounter some problems with Cognos BI
They can navigate and render some reports, but sometimes, no response seems to come back from server and IE11 just show an error message to explain that he did not find the page.
If we try the same request a lot of times from the same computer, it can work 80% of times sometimes, sometimes a bit less.
But it does not work everytime

We did same test with IE 11 on Windows 7 and Windows 8, we never faced the same issue. It just happen on Windows 8.1, but not every time. We were able to reproduce the problem on at least 4 differents computers on Windows 8.1

Very annoying for users, and for our helpdesk too

Did someone faced the same issue? Is there a fix available for this?

Have you tried compatibility mode on IE11? I believe that is still IBM's recommendation when using IE11.

unarcher

Tried it, but it's not better
Even tried Enterprise Mode

We noticed that this happen more often when launching query studio

unarcher

Noticed this when using IE debugger
It does not happen everytime, but each time it happens, the page fail to load

I am going to go ahead and suggest opening a support ticket with IBM, if you have not already done so. I think this will be too difficult to debug via forum posts.

If you find a root cause, post back for the benefit of future readers.

Same issue happened to me last month.
We have a distributed instance, so we have two gateways.
I tried testing the datasource connections for both gateway and found that the gateway configured to our cognos metrics failed.
So i tried to analyze the connection issue in the other gateway.
We somehow found (in our case) that from the metrics server, the connection to the datasource also fails.
After solving this issue with our metric server and have the two gateways connection successful, the issue was gone.
What's happening in our environment is that the two gateways acts as loadbalancer where when one runs a report using the first gateway it will succeed but will fail if the second gateway is used.

Just some idea which you can look into.

Hi, thanks for your answer feds, but I guess it's not the same root cause since we are running on 3-tier architecture but with only one gateway. And this issue appears only for W8.1 users (so far). Everyone else can access every data source with no problems at all.

Moreover we don't have metrics installed, by the way you're the first person I've ever met on a forum who is using Metrics, wjat's your feedback, feelings with it?

I already have a case opened but still in progress.
