hi,

what would be the best way to implement security so that the user is only able to see the report studio capability.

what i did is, i added the user to the Author role, but he has access to all studios with that. how would i restrict the user to report studio only ?

Regards

Create a new role, add the user to this role, then grant the Report Studio capability to this role. Simple :)

Hi MFGF,

i have created a group named "BIG" and added one user "abc" to it. i have added the "BIG" group to the report studio capability with Read,Write,Execute and Traverse rights.

Now when i log on to the cognos connection with user "abc" i am not able to see the report studio icon on the welcome page.

what must be the issue here ? any idea where i am going wrong?

Request you to guide me

Thanks &

do i need to add the "BIG" group for the following capabilities under report studio ? so the the user under "BIG" group has full control to report studio ? and that capability is visible on the welcome page.

Allow External Data
Bursting
Create/Delete
HTML Items in Report
User Defined SQL

You should be able to see report studio. How about from launch menu ? Are you able to see report studio from there ?
Thanks

You also need to go to "User Interface Profiles" (it sits beneath Capabilities in the Admin console) and add your group in to the "Professional" UIP, granting Execute and Traverse.

Cheers!

If you go to the Admin Console and navigate to the Security tab then choose User Interface Profiles, there is a "Set Properties - User Interface Profiles" button in the top right corner. If you go into here and look at the permissions, you need to make sure your group has Execute and Traverse privileges defined in here too.
