Joining Regular Dimension to Fact Table

I have an old star schema that consists of a fact table and several regular dimensions.  I was originally able to create a relationship between the regular dimensions and the fact table (query subject), but now it appears I'm unable to do that. It's been a long time since I've worked with this model, what am I doing wrong?

Notice that in the screenshot there are two unlinked regular dimensions.  If I click on the fact table and try to create a new relationship, the regular dimensions are not available to create new join.

Normally I would click on the fact table. then ctrl+click on the dimension, then right-click and select "Create" followed by "Relationship".

If you only click on the fact table you'd need to click the little folder icon to browse for the appropriate table to connect with your fact.

Thanks for the reply Lynn, unfortunately, I've tried doing that, but the regular dimensions are not available as an option once I try to click the little folder on the create a relationship box:

Also, here's what happens when I try the crtl+click method:

Hmmm, you converted your query subject to a regular dimension? I would normally have relationships in the database/physical layer where there are only query subjects to be joined. After creating the business layer I'd merge into new regular dimensions in a dimensional layer.

Not really sure if that has anything to do with your issue. Perhaps you created relationships when they were query subjects and then after that converted to regular dimensions?

Hi,

I think you're getting confused here. You create relationships between query subjects, not between regular dimensions and measure dimensions (or regular dimensions and query subjects).

The only concept of relationships involving regular dimensions is that of scope relationships, and these do not have cardinalities.

Cheers!

HI
While creating DMR model , u dont need to create relationship between regular dim. and measure dim.
A scope relationship is created automatically between them. U have to create relationship in database / physical layer between query subjects only.
