Unable to insert column into list

I am having trouble with some reports. This is the second time I have had this problem with a report. The reports have been around for a long time and are fairly complex. Someone asks me to add a new column to their report. I try to drag the column from the list query onto the list and nothing happens. I think I am crazy, smack my mouse and try again. Cognos tells me an insert operation is already underway and cancles all insert operations.  I close the report, open it again, drag the column over and nothing happens. I wait for 30 minutes and nothing happens. Go to a different page in the same report and the insert operation works fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I also copied the report definition to the clipboard and started a new report. Same issue.

Sounds like that report has a corruption somewhere. May need to rebuild the report from scratch.  :-\

Are you using a supported browser? Sounds like it might be a browser incompatibility issue to me?

I actually saw that before. Have you changed anything else in the report?
If not, try clearing your cache and do it again. If you did - make sure you didn't break anything.

So, I found that the summary footnote is causing me trouble. Consider a grouping on the list and then a summary row which has been unlocked and had data items entered. If I remove the footnote the report behaves ok. But, I lose all the data items from that row and they need to be replaced once the new column is inserted. Some of my reports are large and it takes as long as 8 or 9 seconds to insert a data item into the footer.
