How to Add a Table of Summary Data

Good morning:

I've created a table in our database that maintains all of the incoming documents to our system per day, as well as the status of when it was completed, by who, and if the document was deleted.  In Report Studio, I've built a report to output the contents of this table based on a user-selected date range.  All of this is working as intended.

Now, I'd like to report some statistics.  For example, if the user selected to see the document status for documents received between June 1, 2014 and June 7, 2014, I'd like to be able to report how many documents were received, how many were processed, and how many were deleted, for each day of the date range.  Is this something that can be done using Report Studio?

I'm new to Report Studio, and not sure where to even start.  So, I'll be very grateful for any direction you can give!

Yes, Report Studio can do that.

Are you also doing the Framework Manager (FM) model? If so, be sure to read the FM user guide sections on modeling data (FM menu item Help > Contents). They are actually pretty good. In addition, there is a wealth of material you can google up. For instance, I just googled "how to create a star schema" and one of the links was a decent article on the basics at http://gkmc.utah.edu/ebis_class/2003s/Oracle/DMB26/A73318/schemas.htm.

Those reports will be pretty simple to produce if the data model is a star schema. If not it can still get it done, it just may be more difficult.

Hi, thank you for your reply bdbits.  It doesn't seem that I have Framework Manager installed, though.   :(  Could you elaborate a little more on how to use star schemas to build these summaries?  Thanks so much for your help.

If you are not the modeller,  you should talk with whoever is building your packages. They need to model it properly and it is something that has to be done in FM.

That said, the FM user guide and a wealth of other documentation is available on line. Look here under "Model and Design".
