How do I get all the prompts in one prompt page?

Hi folks.

I have 2 manual SQL query entries created in Report Studio.
Each query has its own parameters defined.
When I run the report, the parameter for the first prompt appears in one page and when I enter the value, another prompt page appears for hte second query.

Why cant the prompts appear in a single page ? Is there a way for me to generate them in the same page.?
Thanks

thanks,Calson..but is there a way without creating a prompt page?

Why wouldn't you want to create a prompt page? From the user's perspective it sounds like that is exactly what you need to solve the problem. What other requirement is in the mix that makes you seek another solution?

I agree with Lynn. Any reasons for not creating the prompt Page?

I agree with Lynn...

Oh no! Now look what you did! You should never do that or we'll be swamped with applauses all over the place! You would NEVER see me doing that! ;)

Hi,

Lynn is right - you have one package. Your package contains references to multiple cubes, but it's still one package. :)

What? Me? Nope - must be another muppet with the same name :)
Meep!

Oh Geez Louise MFGF! I've now applauded you also to rectify my oversight  ;D

Kratos I don't believe you have any other choice but to use a prompt page.

Using Package based reports we have alot of reports that reside on the Data Page itself, I don't like it but our business users do - so for these reports we do not build a Prompt Page and we force defaults for all prompts via various methods so the Report returns "Corporate Data" when you open it and when you use the filters on the report page you are narrowing the results.

However you are using Free Hand SQL and that is an entirely different beast.

I assume you are using Prompt Macros within the SQL to generate the Prompts
#prompt('Select Data Source', 'token', 'Database.dbo.')#Organization where Organizationuid IN (#promptmany('Select Affiliate')#)

And you are seeing duplicate Prompt Pages because as each Query runs it attempts to populate these prompts and needs user feedback.
I don't believe there is anything you can do to force these 2 Free Hand SQL queries to run to build this dynamic Prompt page at the same time.

By Building a Prompt page and accounting for the Prompts yourself - yes you will need seperate SQL Statements to populate the results (Unless you want the users to enter in everything into a blank box) but you will then have all Prompts covered so when the report runs it knows what to populate the Prompt Macro's with.

You could even default the values on the prompt page - but that requires Java Script to default Manual SQL based Prompts

Supporting Manual SQL based reports in an environment like Cognos is a bit of a pain to be honest...

So if you do not want to put the time in to build the Prompt page and seperate Prompt queries to support the Manual SQL report then you may just have to deal with being prompted twice when you run the report - lesser of two evils...

Thanks guys, The client wanted to do it without a prompt page. I pushed back and told them to deal with it lol
