Deployment from Dev to Production

We just started using a development and production environment.  I want to be able to deploy selected reports from dev to production, while maintaining the production owner and schedule.  Using the Cognos export import, I see the options, but it will only do an entire folder.  I can't select a specific report.  If I copy the XML from to the clipboard and paste it into production, I overwrite the report and it makes me the owner and breaks the schedule and report view links.

I had run into that issue in the past, where copying a report over-top due to a promotion would break the views/schedules.

I logged a ticket with IBM and they gave me this page. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21625148

I don't believe it keeps the original owner on the report after an update, but it won't break schedules and report views.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Karti, this is good to know, but it only works if you are in the same environment.  The copy and past function doesn't work between environments.

I have never used this product but have you investigated if it will work in this situation: Integrated Control Suite by BSP Software.

Deployment info is here: http://www.bspsoftware.com/Products/IntegratedControlSuite/Deploy

I could be in left field with this but it may be useful.

If you had a folder that would be the standard drop area for reports being promoted from Dev to Prod, it would work. We do it in our environments, and it works nicely, since you aren't overwriting the old report as soon as you promote it.

In case there's no chance of getting Meta Manager - probably the best administration solution out there - what I usually do is I have a folder that's meant for export, and I copy the report there and export it via Cognos. Or, in a three-layer environment, I develop the reports without much care for owners/schedule, move it to test environment which is similar to prod in users, where I set these properties, and then move it to production.
