Hi All,

I am just wondering which method of modelling is better in Frame work manager ..is Dimesions, Meausre Relation method or Relational method.  At the moment i feel like i am not using the FM's potentail, b'coz  i am just creating views in the database and pulblishing them in the FM, then create report out of views in the Report Studio. ..is this right approach..?
so far everything is working fine.. just wondering is this right approach..?

Thanks for your help.

Creating views in the db is not necessarily a bad thing, if they encapsulate business logic and other applications also use them then they add value. What you do not want is the scenario where you have a view per report. The goal of FM regardless of wether you model relational data dimensionally or not is to afford you some form of reuse so you can create multiple reports off of one model/package.

The major benefit of modelling relational data dimensionally is that in cognos you can automatically drill up/down through your dimensions like you would an olap data source. The best way to get your head around this would be to attend one of the FM modelling courses offered through cognos's partners.
