subquery vs co-related subquery

As i know the difference between subquery and co-related subquery. But the question arising in my mind.

When we will go for subquery, and when co-related subquery. Do they give the same result. Can i use any one of them in any scenario, is there will be no problem.

Please tell me the concept.
