Difference between aggregate and rollup aggregate funciton

Hi Cognoise Team
First of all thank u to all of you, members of Cognoise community.
U please guys tell me what is the difference between aggregate and rollup aggragate function ,
1)when it is used,
2)and for what purpose it is used,
3)Are they automatically utilized based on the query item or ever i manually need to set the property for different functions / activities.

please justify them so that i can understand the definition and function of them.
