I had been out of the Cognos world since 2010, but got back in recently. I joined the "Cognos Professionals" group on Facebook, and I started seeing all these requests for certification test dumps. I really wasn't sure what they meant, though I thought (correctly, it seems) that they were requesting the real tests, and I finally decided to google, and reading here in Cognoise what I thought was confirmed.

As most people here, I find cheating on the certs despicable, and was amazed that the dumps existed in the first place. I'm a Cognos instructor and former Cognos/IBM employee, and I certified years ago, and did it by studying and using the product. Actually, IBM helped by bringing us instructors in for an intensive training seminar where we went through the course materials.

Apart from the cheating bothering me, it made me wonder about IBM's reaction, and if they've done anything to counter it? Or is it just so prevalent in the certification test world that you can't do anything about it? It certainly defeats the purpose of certification which was supposed to serve as some proof to prospective employers of the degree of knowledge of a job candidate.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Was that the session held in Amsterdam? If so, I was at the session, presenting and coaching - you may well have been "muppeted" :)

nope, not Amsterdam. that might have been much more fun. this was in 2008, I believe, at the original Cognos, inc. northeast headquarters.

Around the same timeframe, then. I'm guessing the Americas went to Ottawa while us Europeans went to Amsterdam. Given the choice, I would have chosen Ottawa every time! :)
