Open AR attachment in email on iPad

I was under the impression that if I emailed an AR .mht file to myself as an attachment, and opened that email on my ipad which has the Cognos ipad app on it, I'd get prompted to open the attachment in the app. However, when I open the email on my ipad and select the attachment, it gets downloaded as a mime attachment. When I then click the attachment it sits there forever "running" but nothing happens. I don't see where I can open it in the Cognos app. Am i wrong in assuming I should be able to open an AR attachment this way in the Cognos ipad app?

Hi,

It works fine for me! I wonder if you email system is interfering with the attachment? What happens if you use (say) gmail and manually attach an MHT output then send this to your iPad - does it open as you'd expect?

Cheers!

Some Aussie email providers might be the issue as I've spoken to 2 others who have had the same problem. I've had no problem if get the mht file to my ipad via the ipad Dropbox app. I can then open it ok in the Cognos app. I'll try your suggestion with gmail using browsers only.

MFGF,
I tried sending the file from my laptop using gmail within browser, rather than my MS Outlook client. This time when I opened the email using my ipad email app and tapped on the attachment it immediately gave me the option of opening it with the Cognos app. The other difference is the ISP. This time it was gmail. First time it was that of my broadband provider.

Thanks for the input.

That's progress - it proves that the basic mechanism works and the issue isn't with your Cognos app or your iPad. Looks like you just need to get to the bottom of why the attachment is being mangled by MS Outlook and/or your ISP.

That's the next step. I'm suspicious about the ISP smtp server being the culprit.

Now that I've been able to get files into the Cognos ipad app all I have to do is work out how to selectively remove them. There doesn't appear to be any obvious process for it!

Hi,

Let's see if I can get this right from memory... First you press and hold on a report until they all start to wiggle. A set of (difficult to see) checkboxes will appear - one on each report, plus a "Delete" button in the top left corner. At the moment none of the checkboxes are selected. Tap on your report to select the checkbox (and on any other reports you want to delete to select them as well) then hit Delete.

Cheers!

Works a treat. You're worth more money! It wasn't "obvious " before because until yesterday I had nothing to delete!

Yippee!! perhaps you can send an email to TheMuppetsBoss@TheMuppetsEmployer.com to tell him this? :)

Actually, thinking about it, all it would do is to make him laugh incredulously...

I can confirm it is my ISP's SMTP server causing the problem. If I send it from my laptop using MS Outlook, or via web mail, via my ISP, the MHT attachment is somehow converted to a mime attachment, and won't open properly in any mail client or app on my iPad. If I send it using Gmail then I can open it in the Cognos app no problem at all, using any mail account on my Ipad, including that of my ISP. Strange but true.
