When trying to open an existing report in Report Studio, received this error:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The server returned an unrecognizable load response for report "".

Details:
CAMID("vo_ad:u:11122333445566xxx")/folder[@name='My Folders']/folder[@name='Development']/report[@name='My Metrics']
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suspect my report is corrupt now as it won't open.  A few questions:

1) Any ideas on how to recover this report?
2) Is there a regular backup procedure that you follow to save reports to prevent loss of work? A recovery process?

If this happened once, it could happen again. And this is the first major report I've written in Cognos. I'm a little worried about doing more development.

Using Cognos Connection v10.2
Thanks!

Unless you have a backup copy it would be difficult to recover. I haven't played with it yet, but Motio might be able to grab it from the content store.

How do you back up your reports? Just create a copy of it every once in a while?

not sure on how to recover a certain corrupted report. but i had an exact situation of your this morning. noticed this error for couple of reports since we upgraded from 10.1.x to 10.2.1. i cleared the cache and restarted my machine and it was working fine. may be you could try that.

This error means that the dispatcher that the report is routed to no longer exists. (usually this is due to upgrading Cognos)

There are two options to fix it... assuming you're just a report author you're going to want to do the first one

1. Recreate the report, by just copying the items into a new report (DO NOT COPY THE XML, because in the XML code is the routing as well)
2. In the administrations menu, go to the configuration tab, click dispatchers and service link, click the "Specify routing rule" and it'll tell you that a rule is no longer active or usable or something like that.  It will remove the rule automatically and it should fix it all.

Thank you vanlang, for the reply.

I did have to recreate the report, but I was unable to copy items from the corrupted report because they were not viewable. The error message pops up with an OK button and then the report is completely blank. There are no items to select.

A consultant mentioned this may occur when a report is left open and the development environment (i.e. my laptop) is put to Hibernate or Sleep mode. This is his best guess why this happened.
