I am new at using Cognos 10.1 and created a simple report template.  When I try to save the template as a report, it is still in a template format.   The package is not showing when a save it under a new name. therefore, when it opens the report, it is in edit mode.   I know I must be missing something.  Please help. :(

Thanks,  j

I think you're describing exactly the way that a template should work. Think of it like a set of placeholders for you to fill in when you create a new report. You might put a field in the footer of the report for ReportName() for example. When you create a new report using that template and save that report, the field in the footer will be filled in when you run the report. Essentially a template is like a form that you fill in to create a new report.

Does that help?

So how would I use the template and change it to a report format for others to view?   "Save As" does not work.   I add a package then create my report with a list and try to save it as HTML and it still has the template icon and opens in edit mode when a viewer opens the report.  Do you have a step-by-step documentation on how to use a template then convert to a report for viewers to use?   I have googled it and researched and can not find anything.  Is this something the administrator has to change behind the scene for the template to work correctly?  Otherwords,  if I open the template with the formating and standards I've created, then use it to write a report in report studio, then change it to a report for viewers to see.   Either in HTML format, PDF format, etc.  How?

Does this make sense?

Sorry if I was not clear in my previous question. :-[

The short answer is that you add report templates to Cognos so they show up in the standard dialog when an author is creating a new report.

You will want to read this: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/cbi/v10r2m1/topic/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.ug_cra.10.2.1.1.doc/c_asg_adding_rstemplates.html#asg_adding_rstemplates

Thank you so much for your quick response.  So it is like I said in my first question.   The Cognos Administrator will have to handle adding the report templates to the standard dialog box.    :)
