Problem moving from XP to W7, Transformer stops responding

Hello,

I have been running transformer 10.1 on windows XP to make a cube based on a report from Cognos Connections. This has worked for me. I always had some trouble browsing the content store,  but I was able to at least check/add/remove columns, use them to design a cube and generate a cube. I was not allowed to publish the cube directly to connections because my Cognos service provider does not allow this, but I could at least store the cube locally. This was good enough and I could work with this

Now I have tried to move to Windows 7. On windows 7 Transformer simply hangs when I do anything that requires connection to the database. I get a popup for the content store signon as I should, but once I log in it just hangs. This happens when I check columns, try to generate a cube, or anything that requires a datasource connection. This is using the exact same model and Cognos Configuration that works on windows XP. I have tried running in compatibility mode and as an administrator but it does not work.

Has anybody had similar issues? Does Transformer perhaps require drivers to connect directly to the Database?

Thanks,
Chris.

What kind of database connection are you using? ODBC? Native database client libraries?

The only issue I encountered was with ODBC, and that was because I was using WIndows 7 64-bit. The default ODBC administration console is for 64-bit drivers, but Transformer needs 32-bit. I ended up launching it manually - SYSWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Not sure whether this is your issue or not?

Hi MF,

Thanks for your reply. I am unsure if this is my issue, but it could definitely be worth a shot. Maybe I unkowingly had this set correctly on windows XP. I actually thought I was using some sort of JDBC driver. I will try defining my datasource in ODBC 32-bit and see if it works.

Could you tell me how I can confirm whether I am using ODBC rather than JDBC?

Thanks,
Chris.

What is the data source for your Transformer model? Are you using a Cognos 10 BI defined data source? If so, you can look at the data source definition in the Cognos 10 BI administration console. If not, what kind of data source is defined in Transformer?
