Does size really matter?

Has anyone run into performance issues with Active Reports when the file size gets too large?
Are there known limits to the report size after which performance slows?
Just looking for practical guidelines.

Thank you.

Hi JBClark2.0,

as far as i know the bottleneck is the Browser (IE) rendering the mhtml file. Ive attended a webinar for A.R. in Cognos 10.1.1, an IBM contact person told me experiencewise the size of an mhtml active report should not overgrow 10mb.

But as you my have read in the ibm release notes Active Reports experienced a lot of improvements in further realeases of cognos, they optimized size and performance for Cog. 10.2(.1).

In my experience, 20 mb is a limit, better are 8-10 mb as limiting size. Ive biuld A.r. bigger then 20 mb though and they worked (wiuth some delay).

Keep in mind that the main idea of A.R. are "kind-of-dashboard"- applications which should show aggregated key indicators and some visualizations, not huge crosstabs with 25 filter tabs etc...so as long as you have a thought out concept and design i think you wont have any troubles ;)

have a nice day,
cheerz

Hi Charon,

Thanks for the information. It's nice to get an idea of the limitations before we launch a new strategy.

Best,

I thought someone was spamming even Cognoise with those annoying spam e-mails about the "size". Funny subject line
