Folks ,

I need a help regarding some reading / paper on cognos large scale implementation . Presently we need to study feasibility of generating almost 70K reports everyday in production server . Can you guyz suggest me any link or study matirial which will help me referencing cognos large scale implementation .

There will be around 30K users out of 1.2 millions everyday to login cognos server and extimated of 70K mixed of small and medimum reports ( 20 p-ages to 80 pages ) .

Currently we do need some base information ( for N numbers concurrent users and M numbers of reports with lets say some millions of records what would be the configurations . So that we can have our base research and then probably approach IBM folks with our capacity management .

Your help will be greatly appreciated ,

Grim

For something this large you will probably want to engage IBM Pro Services or an IBM Partner with this type of experience. There are a lot of variables to consider in such a large implementation and I would hate to see someone fail due to poor planning and lack of insight (Not that you have that problem, but as stated this is a big install. You don't want to miss anything.).

That said, there are IBM Redbooks and white papers on the IBM website but they probably do not contain the type and breadth of knowledge you are looking for. This type of knowledge is in the BI Professionals.

Just my $0.02.

Here are some docs that might help you.

Is that for the new healthcare program?
1.2 million user base is humongous.
You'll be paying arms and legs or both to server PVU license to keep up with the demand.

I would echo Grim that you should engage someone who has a background with large-scale Cognos implementations. There is a lot of information needed to make that kind of call, more than you'd likely want to post here. Additional technology might also be helpful, for example using something like Terradata might be appropriate. And of course all of the "big data" options that are the darling of the trade press these days, but might actually be of some use to you.

Your IBM reps may be able to draw on their internal resources, or help you find an appropriate third-party resource.

Sounds very interesting!

@ ihasan  - Are you estimating 70k reports because that's how much you have in your current legacy system? Implementing a BI solution like Cognos means it should not be a 1:1 conversion from legacy to Cognos. If your reports are transactional in nature then quite a few of them should be converted into BI solutions which would change the format of those reports to make them
much more useful to give the users the information that they currently may be organizing by combining data from various reports in Excel or some other tool. That being said, I know from experience that quite a few companies are not open to technology and just want to do 1:1 conversion (just have the exact same thing in Cognos what is already there in legacy system). They usually put the blame on the users for being 'picky' to make their own life easy this way.  What's your environment like?
