I would like to know the possible challenge that users are facing while upgrading and after upgrading.

TIA !!

Hi ambuyi,

cognos has a nice little tool called the lifecycle manager ,which helps you migrate from older cognos versions, checkin your report specifications and so on.
Coming from Cognos 8 (esp. 8.4)  is not that big of a step in my opinion. Just keep in mind that also the newest Cognos Version 10.2 has some changes to 10.1.1. that might have an impact on your migration as well.
For example, i faced the issue that coming from 10.1.1 to 10.2 some datatypes in framework manager (Oracle DB 10g  behind) changed and using keys with different datatypes does not work properly anymore in 10.2 (search in the search box in the upper right cornoer for more details).

gl and cheerz :P

Hi,

first of all: upgrading with Cognos 10.2 is easier than ever before. JavaScript goes in most times without any problems. You have think about the use of new technologies, that come with Cognos 10.x (DQM). These features will change a lot. Which components are you using?

Kind regards

We are also planning to upgrade to latest version available for cognos 10. We are currently in version 8.3.
I have some questions related to this.
Can we upgrade straight to latest release in cognos 10.?
We are using Oracle 9i as Database Manager.  Do we need to upgrade to 10g or 11g?

Thanks in advance!

I also suggest going with a 32bit gateway if your thinking of going 64bit. There are known issues with upgrading/upgraded reports on a 64bit gateway.
