Can BI 10.2 64bit server be used as an Additional Job Server for CP 10.1.1 FP2.

Can I install the Planning Job server (10.1.1 FP2)  on a 64 bit machine and use it as additional Job Server in my Primary Application Server.

Hey Ratoz,

Yes, this configuration is possible.  You will want to make sure that your server has adequate resources (CPU / Ram) and when you do the install you will need to put EP into a separate folder from the 64b BI install.

Once configured, I would recommend reducing the total number of cores available on this job server in the CAC (Right click job server > Properties > Modify the Concurrent processes from -1 to a number a couple lower than the total cores).

Hi Eric,

Many thanks for your update, Our BI server is having 128Gig Ram and 24 Cores.

I believe this is a good specs...

Will let you know once I am able to do this configuration...

Hi Eric,

I have installed and configured as per your mail, but I am unable to start the Job Server on the BI server.

Planning Job Server has been installed in a separate folder as you have said...

"IBM Cognos Services" is giving the error. PFA screenshot.

Hey Ratoz,

What's the error that's happening during startup of the IBM Cognos service on BI server for the EP instance? (the screenshot you provided looks to be when you're trying to add the job server to the CAC?)

ratoz

Hi Eric,

I am getting the following error when starting the services in the EP instance of the BI Server

"[Registering Service]
[ ERROR ] A service with the same name, 'IBM Cognos', is already registered.
Please rename the IBM Cognos service."

So because you already have a BI install, which would use the default configuration (unless you modified it), you need to make some changes to make the EP instance unique.

1. Change the IBM Cognos service name:
Right click on the service and select Rename and give it a unique name. Ex: IBM Cognos EP

2. Change the shutdown port:
With the IBM Cognos EP service selected, change the shutdown port. Ex: 9499

3. Change the internal and external dispatcher ports:
In the Environment section, change both ports from the default 9300 to something else.  Ex: 9400

I believe that is it..  but I may have missed something.  Give that a try and see how you make out.

Hi Eric,

I have done the changes and the services are up and running but the status is showing as failed (screenshot attached).

Also I am getting the same error as before when I am trying to add the Server in CAC, but I am able to add that server in the Job Cluster now.

The pogo error in the screenshot is normal, that would not cause an Error to occur during startup.  Scroll down in the details list and see if there is another error present..

ratoz

Other than the Pogo error no other errors are appearing in the details section.

I know that's a very common error, especially with the setup of new servers...

As a quick first try, remove the job server and then add it back in.  You may get some warnings and errors, but push ahead through them.  If that doesn't help you should be able to get some IBM technotes by searching on google for: "cac" "errors occurred while trying to communicate with each of the following servers" "job server" etc.

If after you've done some digging you're still unable to get things going, update this thread.
