Steve

I am installing 10.2.1 64 Bit on a Windows 2003 server.

There are 2 folders:

Program Files
Program Files(x86)       ........  This is 32 bit, correct?

The BI Server gets installed on Program Files\ibm\.....

Framework Manager and Transformer  - Should be installed in Program Files or Program Files(x86).  Is FM and Transformer
32 bit?

For the Content Store, is it advisable to create a new DB and then export and import using Deployment?

or just create a copy of the earlier Content Store DB and use that in the new version?

Thanks a lot !

Yes.
Doesn't matter what folder as long as they have their own folder. Yes.
Yes.
or that'll work as new installation should upgrade content store but full export/import after initializing core tables is good.

Hi,

Framework Manager and Transformer are client tools, and are 32-bit installs (regardless of whether your BI server install is 32 or 64 bit). This means they will default to installing in a folder below Program Files(x86) - this is fine :)

You will end up with two configurations to do - one for the 64-bit BI server (which you should do first and start so that the cryptographic keys are generated) followed by the 32-bit configuration (which should point to the dispatcher configured in your 64 bit instance).

For the content store, my preference is to do a full deployment from your old Cognos instance, create a new content store database in your new instance, then restore your deployment into this. It should still work if you point your new instance at the old content store (it will upgrade) but you then lose the ability to ever use it in the old instance.

Cheers!

Thank you MFGF ! It's done now after lot of troubleshooting.

It turns out that even in a 64 bit install, cognos.cgi and cognosisapi.dll are still 32 bit. The IIS was unable to get to it until
I found some articles on KB and then ran 2 command line options to enable IIS to work with 32 bit files.

Hmmm. In 10.2.1 I think the gateway is 64 bit by default (unless you change it in the config) so it's normally fine to leave the application pools for cognos.cgi and cognosisapi.dll set as 64 bit. This caught me out when upgrading from 10.2 to 10.2.1 - in IIS they were both set to 32-bit since my old 10.2 gaqteway component was 32-bit. In 10.2.1 my gateway component was 64-bit, and I coudn't get in via a browser until I modified the application pools to suit.

The following rules apply:
If you install 10.2.0 BI Server x64 -> You MUST run the command "COPYGATEMOD 64bit" to make the CognosIsapi 64-bit
If you install 10.2.1 BI Server x64 -> Automatically the CognosIsapi is 64bit
