Hi there community!

I've been given a little task in setting up Cognos BI on a server.

I've been provided with the following to set up Cognos BI environment:

  • Cognos BI Server
  • Framework Manager
  • Transformer
  • Cognos Insight
  • Cognos Samples

I've installed them in the order their listed (top one being the first installation, bottom one being the last installation)

Now this may be a stupid question (so please be gentle and treat me like an idiot with your explanations :)) but how can I access Connection Manager - is that part of Cognos covered in one of these installs?

FYI the database hosting the data in the background in SQL Server database.

All answers appreciated

Hi,

I'm not clear about what you mean when you refer to "Connection Manager"? Do you mean the Cognos 10 BI web portal which is called Cognos Connection? Or do you mean Framework Manager?

Cognos Connection is simply a URL in your browser:

http://<your server>/ibmcognos

Framework Manager is launched from the Start menu as it's a client tool.

Cheers!

Hey!

I mean the Cognos portal called "Cognos Connection".  This area contains the directories to reports and allow new reports to be built in Report Studio, Query studio, etc etc.

I have installed all the programs in the order above, and tried accessing Cognos Connection through the "http://<your server>/ibmcognos" method already, but getting no joy. an error on explorer comes up saying "Webpage cannot be found".

Where in the list of 5 installs mentioned below does the Cognos Connection component reside?  (i.e. Which one provides the Cognos Connection bit?)

Are you familiar with the installation documentation?
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/cbi/v10r2m1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.inst_cr_winux.10.2.1.doc%2Fc_c8biinstintro.html

(That link might open to samples setup for some odd reason, just use the nav on the left-hand side.)

There is a section on configuring your web server, among other installation tasks. It is not enough to just run the installers.
