Cognos 10.1 won't start

I'm installing Cognos 10.1 64 bit, Websphere 8.0, DB2 9.7 on a test system. Websphere installs fine. I have no problems running cognos configuration. The webserver is up. But I cannot get cognos to start. It doesn't generate any logs so I have no idea where to start looking for errors as to why. Has anyone experienced this?

When you are in Cognos Configuration and you press the "Start" button, do you see any details displayed if you press the "Details" button while waiting for the service? Are you sure you do not have a cogserver.log file?

If I had to guess, I'd wager that either you haven't run through the steps to set up DB2 to make it accessible as a content store database, or maybe you haven't copied in the DB2 jdbc files? Without seeing any errors it's pure guesswork, though.

Might be worth checking you have done the following?

Can't start Cognos through the configuration. It has to be started through the startup for websphere. The DB2 content store is set up. I can connect with no issues. I get messages from Cognos that the content store will be upgraded. (We were on 8.4). The jdbc files are copied.

So you're using Websphere as the Application Server not just as a Web Server? Hmmm. Not something I've done, sadly. I do have some old notes from a course I went on, though, which step through the config process. It was a long while ago, and was Cognos 8 and Websphere 6.1, but the basic principles should be the same.

Some of the files and directories are sure to have changed, but I'm sure you will be able to figure those bits out...

The notes are here:

Good luck!

Are you starting with a copy of your 8.4 CS? If yes, create a new CS that's empty and use that as a test. Reconfigure to the empty CS DB and regen your war/ear and redeploy. Then try starting via WAS and see if you get a startup with the empty CS DB. This may or maynot give you a bit more detail or logs.

What's in your WAS LOGs? SYSTEM.out...etc.
