Intersection (Tuples) vs. Tuple function in a Data Item

This may be a stupid question, but is there any difference between dragging an Intersection (Tuple) item from the toolbox into a query vs. creating a Data Item and using the tuple function?  In dragging an Intersection item you have to specify a particular dimension  for the tuple however I haven't seen this when creating a data item.

Does it matter?  Are there pros/cons to doing either way?
