Hi,

The Delivery Service is used by the Cognos 10 architecture to send emails to the email server configured in your configuration settings.

The Human Task Service is used to allow creation and modification of Human Tasks, such as a management approval system for new reports before they are released. Details of all the services in the architecture can be found in the Administration and Deployment guide, Chapter 7, under "Dispatchers and Services" (page 117)

Which book have you studied? The Admininstration and Security guide I pointed you to documents the services you asked about. If you want to know how to utilise the functionality they provide, you will need to look at the relevant parts elsewhere in the documentation.

If you want to see how to configure an Approval Request Task in Event Studio (for approving the release of reports, for example), take a look at the section entitled "Add an Approval Request Task" in the Event Studio User Guide (page 41 in the PDF). http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/documentation/docs/en/10.2.0/ug_cr_es.pdf

To see how to configure yoor Cognos instance to communicate with an email server, take a look at ""Specify a connection to a mail server account" in the BI Installation and Configuration Guide, (page 105 in the PDF).  http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/data/cognos/documentation/docs/en/10.2.0/inst_cr_winux.pdf

If you have specific questions about these processes, please let us know.

Cheers!

Jaganlalrm I do not believe you will find what you are looking for in the Human Tasks area

You need to look at a tool like the Integrated Control Suite
http://www.cognoise.com/index.php/topic,7474.0.html

This is a third party tool built by the owners of these Forums - I am sure there are others available if you look around.
THis is allows Cognos Version Control and Cognos Change Management which is the only way you can have Management approval system for new reports before they are released.

If you don't have the $$ to purchase a third party tool then you can do this through process control

Allow Authors to only create reports in specific folders that have limited visibility and then manually review, approve and copy these reports out to the Public Folders

Hi

If we Created Approval Request Task for one Report if that report not approved it will not be displayed to another users.

Except then who create the report and then Approved. IS it Correct or am Wrong i my understanding

Thanks in Advance

MMcBride

QuoteYou can include content, such as report output, in an approval request.

But you are not asking for Report Content you are (If I understand correctly) wanting to disable a report for all users except a small group prior to approval and then once approval is given open the report up.

The Human Task events work great IN the chain, what is preventing me from going to the public folders and running that report outside of Event Studio?

Nothing...

This is why I do not think you will be able to get the Change Control you are asking for with out of the box Human Task scheduling for Event Studio.

hi

Human Task means Request to User for Approve the Report after Approve only it will be Displayed in Connection or Before Approved also the report will be displayed in Connection.

Thanks in Advance.

Human Task Events are only used in Event Studio and have nothing to do with the rest of your environment.

You are attempting to take an Event Studio only process and apply it to your normal reporting environment - it just doesn't work that way.
If you add manual tasks you could achieve what you are looking for, but then an email works just as well as the Event Studio task...

You build a report and save it to a folder within your Public Folders, this folder has limited access
You create an Event Studio job for User_01 to review the report and Approve the report.
Once the Approve criteria is met the Event Studio job will send an email to you the developer.

You can then copy this report from this Secure directory to a public directory. - As I said an email will work just as easily

What you CANNOT do:
Setup a report with Limited security, flag this report for Approval, once the approval is give new security is assigned to the report. - THis is beyond the scope of what an "Approval Request Task" is used for in Event Studio.

Here is something Event Studio can do:
Setup a Report in a folder in Event Studio Run the report - send the results to user_01 with an Approval Request, once the approval request is given send the results to this list of 15 users.

THis doesn't change the report and any of the 15 users can go manually run the report at anytime - they have access to it in order for them to see the results.

To get Report level Change Control processes you need to build a manual process or get a third party tool Cognos does not support it out of the box.
