PF-SRV-6116 revisited

Even though installing 8.4.1 server on Windows 7 is not officially supported, my install seemed to work quite well untill the dreaded 'PF-SRV-6116 ' business.  So, everything seems to work , but Cognos administration is inaccesible.
According to IBM this can be fixed by adding an entry to  the  cgi-bin\web.config  or  the   system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config  files.
There is no web.config  file generated initially, cause I did not install the IIS component responsible for the  'feature delegation' option. After installing all IIS components the web.config file is generated, but it is empty.
Whatever I put into the web.config file, it kills Cognos connection directly.
I then tried to add an entry into  the applicationHost.config file like:

<add name="TIES-ISAPI" path="cognosisapi.dll" verb="*"
modules="IsapiModule" scriptProcessor="F:\Program Files (x86)\cognos\c841_32\cgi-bin\cognosisapi.dll"
resourceType="File" requireAccess="Execute" preCondition="bitness32" allowPathInfo="true" />

in the handlers section, but no dice,  still I keep running into PF-SRV-6116 error messages.

I assume that restarting IIS between modifications is enough, or is a reboot in order to load  applicationHost.config ?

I may be mistaken, but 8.4.1. on 2008R2 server does seem to only need the right IIS configuration, no manual updates of any configuration files

Good gracious me..  The issue is solved, but what a weird cause.
Using Notepad++ to edit the files is the big issue. You basically see what is not there. Any changes made are not saved in a normal way. Updating IIS does not seem to update the applicationHost.config file, which seemed weird.

Now use the native 64bit notepad from the PC/laptop and the same file suddenly shows the real content and  allowPathInfo="true" was not added. Added in notepad and
PF-SRV-6116 was resolved.  Can't believe it   :o

Wow! That's a tricky one to track down, Ties! Well done for finding it! I never use Notepad++ and I would not have imagined it could make this kind of situation arise. It's great that you found it and have documented it here for others to find if they need it.

Thanks!!!

MF.
