how to set Reprompt Buttons to filter query in RS

I have a 4 prompt Buttons with one chice each, I want to filter a query when the button clicked. I set a style variable with 4 values and in the query I have a case statement to control what to filter. Its not filtering the query. Any suggestion or do I have to use JavaScript, if so does anyone have the JavaScript to post so i can use.
