Population Pyramid chart in Cognos

I have been asked to create a chart commonly known as "population pyramid" (male, female by age group). This chart can be done in Excel.
Can it be done using Report Studio?

Yes, it can be done.

In your query, create two different measures, one for male quantity and another for female quantity. One of them must be calculated to become a negative value.

Use the cumulative bar chart and add the two measures on the primary axis (do not use standard measure). Add the ages categories on the Y axys. Once one of them is negative, it will be displayed on the other side of the zero scale. To finish, format the label of the y axis to not display the negative symbol.
