Hello all,

I just have intalled IBM Cognos 10.1 on my machine with all the studios and mobile, configured and use it wirh any issues.

My only problem is regarding Mobile with my IPhone 3GS 4.2.1 and IPad Wireless 64 GB 4.2.1. My mobile reports works fine, but all the the charts in all my reports are missing (a small question mark in blue is presented).

Did anynone ever saw this?

Kind regads,

Felipe.

Hi,

Nope - not seen this before.  All charts appear as expected on the iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches I have tried so far.  Are you using the mobile URL (ie <hostname>/ibmcognos/m) or are you trying to address C10 via the normal browser URL?

Hi  ::)
This blue little question mark shows up because the graphic -in this case the chart- was compressed for mobile networks by the mobile service provider. The reason is, the MSP want their networks not get overload, therefore thats getin more and more default (at least in europe).

Thats the bad news...the good news is, most mobile service provider offer the possibility to turn of this compression for his mobile device so the graphics will appear in full size (and beatuy). E.g. t-mobile has "speedmanager", if i remember correctly you open from your mobile device the page "www.speed.t-mobile.de" or sth like that and there you go, the option to disable the automatic compression.
Most mobile service provider have similar options, i suggest to google it or contact your MSP support.

Pls keep in mind that disabling the "optimization" will most likely increase your data volume on your mobile device...but in my experience, its not that big kind of a deal.

Cheerz :P

SOLUTION FOUND.  I believe the reason for this odd occurrence that charts do not appear is due to a simple error in the configuration of the gateway URL.  What was interesting is when the report ran and closed the "thumbnail" did show the chart.  The reason it was difficult to troubleshoot is the browser on the iPhone/iPad is less developer friendly than a PC or MAC browser.

When I installed the Safari onto my PC and logged onto the Cognos Mobile site, I was able to run the report and yes the charts still did not render, but what I was able to do was to click on the chart picture and tell the browser to download the picture.  The new browser window appeared indicated that "the page could not be found."    :)  I looked at the URL and it had a reference I had not seen before /mobileService/.  I tracked that down but it still did not help me with my problem.  It wasn't until a bit later that I realized that underlying URL was different that the logon.

Yes, the gateway URL was still set with the "generic" path which was not referenced in web service itself.  UGH.... Really.  No wonder so many people were not having this issue.  Either they left it in the generic state or they full configured (as they should) ALL URLs referenced.  Once this was corrected.   VOILA!! All renders as it should.

Bottom-line advice:  Check all URL paths in the configuration (at least from a Windows perspecitive).

We are experiencing the same issue.  Can someone explain to me what URL setting needed to be adjusted.  We are testing this in a 2 server environment with a dedicated Content Manger and a single dispatcher.  Our Gateway URI on the dispatcher is set to point to the CM server which is where IIS is running.

The only URI setting on either server that is not configures is the Controller, but I don't think that is what we need to set.

Is this a Cognos Config setting or do we need another entry in IIS to define mobileservice?
