Link to refresh an HTML report back to starting point

My users have a report that runs in HTML with a variety of drill options enabled across a number of different layout containers.

After drilling down in various places they want a quick link to bring it back the way it looked at the start. Re-running the report is not desirable since there are a couple prompts they'd rather not answer again.

I tried doing a drill through back to the same report but it doesn't go back to the initial view. It just shows it with everything they drilled down on just the same. I can do it by having a copy of the report where one calls the other....but this means two copies of the report and I don't like that idea at all. I can also get it to work drilling through to itself if I specify to open in a new window, but this gets ugly and confusing if they do it a lot and find 60-bajillion open windows.

I've turned off local cache in all the queries. I don't see any other properties or settings I might try.

I'm using IE8 and I've attached a sample from the Great Outdoors. Try drilling down on the rows or columns and then clicking refresh. It doesn't have a prompt, but the behavior is the same problem. I want the refresh to show the original view you see when the report is first run.

Any ideas? Am I facing (shudder) Java Script? Say it ain't so!

Hi Lynn,

It seems to me that it is a bug in Cognos 10. Drill through to the same report doesn't work correctly. If you use parameter in a dimension than you can pass this parameter properly with drill through definition and your report will contain the proper initail view of this dimension after drilling. But if a dimension not contain parameter than you will see the same view of this dimension after drill through, and you can't get the initial view of this dimension.

Maybe the following workarounds can help you:
- use parameter in every dimension which is exist in your crosstab
- create HTML elements with hyperlink instead of drill through definition, and run your initial report with this hyperlink. You can also pass the parameters in URL.

I've attached a modification of your report. You can find a new refresh 'button' below the crosstab using my second workaround. I hope this will help you  ;)

The second option using a hyperlink is exactly perfect! Thanks very much!
