Folks,

I am using cognos10.1.1 BI server for our reporting.

After providing login credentials, users want to see directly Public Folders/My Folders in Cognos Connection, they do not want to see the welcome page.

Could anyone tell me where should i change for this functionality to achieve.  I want this to be done globally, so that it will effect to everyone. Please suggest me. Thanks.

hey kris,

there is the option to edit a xml file in cognos itself. editing xml files give you e.g. controll over what icons you see and what options are available or even standard (e.g., per default the old legacy charts are enabled in cognos 10 instead the new chart engine..you can change that globaly for all users)..
sadly, thought i edited a lot myself in cognos i forgot which file in which folder you have to edit...mea culpa. :(
But as far as i remember, you can search for a post on paulm (seniour forum advisor, very nice guys) on his own blog. search for paulm cognos blog, there you will find some nice posting regarding editing xml files in cognos.
if you dont find it there let me know, i might check my documents on what exaclty i edited...

gl and hf :)

Hi Kris,

Here is another way of removing the Welcome Page without editing the System.xml.

The following settings is only valid for the users that does not already have "user profile", so the users that have never
logged into Cognos BI before (new users).
1. Login into Cognos BI with administrator user.
2. Select IBM Cognos Administration.
3. Security tab.
4. "Users, Groups, and Roles" (selected by default).
5. Click on Cognos link.
6. At the top of the window click on "Edit Default User Profile" button.
7. Preferences tab.
8. In "Report format" group uncheck "Show the Welcome page at startup".
9. Click on OK button at the bottom to confirm change.

Note: If exiting users is using congos groups and roles with LDAP/ AD security no additional change are required else more steps below,

Exiting users:
1. First 4 steps are the same above
2. Click on LDAP namespace (or any other namespace you use).
3. At the line of the desired exiting user click "Set properties" button.
4. follow steps 7 to 9.

Thanks,
RK
