Components of Reportnet

I would like to know about the components which make up the Cogonos Reportnet Package and the possible web resources for the same.

Also possible features of this product on the following parameters would be helpful

-Security
-Scheduling
-Client Requirements
-Development Environment

What exactly u meant by components. As i understood u might be talking about the different tools it is made up of..

It consists..

Framework Manager, Report Studio and Query Studio.

Reportnet can get into any existing security. It depends on the existing security systems. Scheduling can be found in the cognos connection portal. Development Enviornment are all the three tools with different capabalities and flexiblity.

Framework Manger is used to do ur modelling execise. Query Studio for creating ad-hoc reports and Report Studio for creating complex reports.

I couldnot make what u meant by client requirement.plz clarify.

By client requirements i meant , what are the requirements for a client to view the reports on the web.

Also wat are the Operating Systems that are supported  by the sam.

With the client requirement is concerned it varies from every client. This requirement is actually recorded by meeting them, having discussion with them. There is no generic client requirement as such.

If you mean client requirements as in software etc.
There are basically none. ReportNet is zero footprint. Just ensure that you have the latest version of Internet Explorer.

One of Cognos employees was telling me about an incident where the Microsoft team stated that particular functionality of ReportStudio would not be possible with IE. Cognos went ahead and achieved it anyway.

This gives me the impression that IE is being pushed to its limits.

The server components are the portal, Cognos Connection, and the report writers, Report Studio and Query Studio. The only client component is the metadata modelling tool, Framework Manager.
ReportNet is available for both Windows and Unix enviroments; I believe they also have a Linux version. The Content Store will require a compatible database such as SQL Server or Oracle, accessible from the server, as well as the database used for the data you're reporting from.

If you wish to view reports in pdf format, you will also need Adobe Acrobat reader on the server. If you wish to view reports in Excel format, you will obviously need Excel. If you wish to use extension capabilities such as the SDK, you will need some kind of programming environment for your programming language of choice. Again, all this information is on the Cognos site, along with demos, white papers etc.

Merri, I don't think you need Acrobat Reader on the server. Just on the client. Same with Excel.

Oops. Yes, you're right about that, Darek.
I think the version may matter, though - there are some issues with rendering images to pdf format. Haven't managed to resolve that one yet.

hey
before that i would advice u to know whats the client server architecture is
for viewing a file..like pdf or excel its all client side browser dependant and server is no way related..
for any popups or any validations (in general) its client side JVM which does all.
server is jut responsible in sending the data and the client shoulb be capable enough in accepting the respoinse tyope.
Here client is not any computer or person BUT THE BROWSER WHICH WE R USING..Thx

I think you may need Acrobat Reader installed on the server if you wish to schedule a pdf print through ReportNet

I'm not certain about that one... does anyone know this for sure ?  It might be buit-into reportNet.. (which is my guess)
