Anyone go through the upgrade from Cognos 8.1.2 to Cognos 8.2 yet?  If so, any helpful hints or experiences to share?

Thanks
Jeff

We recently upgraded, driven by some sl-o--w performance we were seeing with Charts in 8.1.  The upgrade went well.  Charts are running amazingly faster now (4x or so).  There were some bugs, though... namely some statistical functions we had established in our reporting ceased to work.  The charts also started putting year series NEXT to each other rather than stacked on charts; we had to finagle to fix this.  Expect to do some restructuring of the reports, but based on our experience the upgrade is worth it.

thanks...good to know.  I'm doing the upgrade tomorrow so I will keep an eye out for what you mentioned.

I know the majority of performance enhancement was with Analysis studio, did you see a major increase there as well?

The upgrade was successful, and Analysis Studio is much faster.  The initial opening of some larger cubes is still a bit slow, but overall performance is much better in Analysis Studio 8.2 compared to 8.1.

As the other user mentioned we did run into some 'bugs' with 8.2.  Ours was with using the moving-total function.  In 8.1 we had a field that combined a getdate function with 2 moving-total functions and it worked fine.  After the the upgrade to 8.2 these reports no longer work.  We are in the process of trying to figure our why.

We saw an issue going from 8.1 to 8.2 using the ranking function.  I used a third query getting the total count of product types and used that count to find my bottom 2 (bottom count did not work in my situation).  We had to change our ranking function from [Rank]>=([Count].[OM_Count]-2) to for it to work in 8.2 [Rank]>=(caption([Count].[OM_Count])-2).
