Report execution differs when run independently versus via drill-through

We have a report that for some reason, took forever validate the Parameters upon the execution of the report interactively, and therefore, was taking forever to complete.  To fix this, we added an extra query, with a far simpler structure, to be used to set the Parameter Information.  This query is NOT used in the report by any lists/xtabs/charts. As part of the change, we set all the other queries' Use for Parameter Info property to NO, so they would be ignored at run time... only the new query would be used to validate the parameters.

This solved our execution from the run independently, from Cognos Connection, scenario.  The report rendered in well under a minute.

However, we have a very different result when the report is executed as the Target of a Drill-Through.  It is almost as though the Use for Parameter Info settings are ignored.  Similarly, when in Report Studio, any attempt to build the list of Parameters will eventually get a Timeout error, however the timeout error is occurring in approx 90 minutes, whereas the environment's timeout is actually set to 10 mins.

If anyone has come across a similar situation, please share your findings and hopefully, how you worked past it.  We need the report to render in either scenario... run independently, or via a Drill-Through.

Thanks!
