Hi Folks,

just wondering...is it possible to create a color radiant for container like blocks or tables?
Ive created background color effect with radiant for objects like charts and crosstabs, and it works great. But the same effect is avaible in the properties pane, and there it does not work for the containers...
The idea is of course the customize the reports layout a bit, in my case its an active report.

Is that a bug? Or does anybody has an idea what i am missing here?
thx  :P

Here's a dirty little trick. Set up the background effect that you want on a table cell. Use the "Pick up Style" button to get the background effect. Then use the "Apply Style" on the entire table.

If you want to get rid of it, cut the entire table, paste into notepad, and find the XML for the background effects.

By the way, I consider this cheat to be a bug, so it might get patched out some day. Or they might add offiicial support. I suggest using it sparingly.

Hi Paul,

ty four your "cheat". Well, the issue is (or was), that i was not able to get that backgroundradient effect on tablecells themselfs. Using the "style-pick up"-tool didnt helped either, it just didnt work.

I have tried it on my local 10.1.1 installation as well on our 10.1.1 server installation, both with IE 9.04

Now the strange part...my collegue tried it with remote on the server (using IE8), and there it worked.
She saved it on the server, i opened it and copy-pasted it to my report (in another system). = success

(Btw, now i used your hint and picked up the style defintion of the cell and copied it for the whole table, so your suggestion was def. of value ;)

Still, im a bit confused...why does this effect does not work for me on empty container?!
Sometimes, the "oldy lady cognos" makes it hard to love her   ???

But nvmd, ty for your tip and fast response, have a nice day :)
cheerz :P

Background effects need an absolute size to work. Cognos generates the image, stores it somewhere, then applies it as a background image. Without the size it can't generate the image.

...l o l...

you sir, are a FREAKIN genius...
thinkin about it makes it so clear, but i would have spent at least 2 weeks to found that out...if i would have found it at all

Thank you so much, one thing solved that bugs me...old lady cognos receives all love again  ;D

 ;)

Don't worry, I spent some decent time trying to figure it out.

And remember, just like any other lady, Cognos demands your respect (and lots of money) before she'll do what you want.

Wait... what does that make IBM?
