Hi Gurus,

Sorry if am posting it in wrong forum .Please execuse.
Please let me know which BI tool is better. Cognos or Qlikview. We had to develop a dashboard using cognos and Qlikview for a client. In cognos we developed dashboard both in report studio and active reports and the same dashboard in Qlikview. But client prefered Qlikview. As Qlikview was easy to develop and can do more look and feel things very easily(which in cognos was talking time to do) , so finally client prefered Qlikview.
Am a cognos developer and dont know much abt Qlikview.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
Ravi

I would have suggested that Business Insight and Business Insight Advanced were the obvious counterpoints to Qlikview. Report Studio does not have a business author focus, and I would not really consider showing this to prospects unless they were experienced IT staff, wanting to build complex reports. Business Insight Advanced is a much better and more intuitive fit for business authors. Maybe you should show them this - and/or engage a Pre-Sales resource from IBM to help?

Just a thought.

Meep!

ComplexQry

To me, the HUGE advantage that Qlik has over Cognos (In terms of dashboarding) is the way QlikView filters the data.  The easy to use compact filtering that can be created in a pane.  Its totally intuitive and fluid.  Where I am working, QlikView has caught like wildfire.  Visualizations and such are very comparable.  But being a company like IBM, I think its safe to say that with this leapfrog game of these BI Tools, IBM will come out on top eventually.

Hi mu_ravi.  I performed a comparison between those 2 and my summary was that Qlikview is a consumption tool but not a BI tool. It really doesn't do the ETL, metadata, or BI data repository.  This means it is faster to deliver results with, but isn't scalable.  It is a very good front end, and Business Insight is only just starting to close the gap in terms of eye candy.
