Hello

I am attempting to remove write permissions from a user and when I do so I receive this error when I login as the user: CM-REQ-4012 You do not have appropriate permissions to update or delete....

Does anyone know why?  I have a suspicion it is related to the Series 7 namespace configuration.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi there

I've seen it and its to do with permissions on objects in the folder and folders above.  You have to narrow down the issue.
How many objects are under the folder you wish to remove the write permissions to and what I'd also check is that the user you are modifying has execute permissions on the folder immediately above the object you are removing the write permissions on.

It's a pain bit you will just have to play around with it.  I'd recommend creating a test user account and replicate a small testcase and play around with this to get more of an understanding about what permission changes with cause what ramifications.

Unless you provide a bit more information it would be very had to determine cause as authorization is very unique and customizable.

I had thought at one point that as a user only needs to traverse a folder then that's all they need however, I discovered that the user would then not be able to run a report with prompts so I had to set execute permissions on the parent folder as well.  Go figure.

Good luck

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to remove write permissions from a user on their My Folders only as I do not want them to add back the Public Folders tab to their profile. When I do this I receive the CM-REQ-4012 You do not have appropriate permissions to update or delete the object "/Directory/<namespace>/Users/<usr>/<camid> or related object. This is error is received immediately after the user logs in.

Thank you.

Hi there.

Thanks for the update and clarification.  Actually that defeats the purpose of the "My folder" and as such is not possible to achieve other than

1.  Removing complete access to the users "My Folders"
2.  Setting up permissions in such a way that users are unable to create views, or copy or paste from public folders.

Question for you though is why are you trying to do this?  Can you please provide a more detailed reason for restricting a user in this way and Us Cognoids in this forum can put our collective grey cells together and either argue about the reason for restrictions of this nature and provide an alternative, or provide a solution.

Very interesting

Soulman, you are missing a step here. You need to take ownership of the entry, search for the user's account and do 'Make Me The Owner', then you should be able to take 'Write' permissions away.

Actually, this is very useful in order to take away Public Folders and not be able to have them add it back. The other alternative is to remove the tab icon from the default.css file.
