Layout Calculation not good

Is it true that we should have header texts like report name, etc in a query data item and then put them in the header rather than use a layout calculation. If so why? It was recommended to me

Why would a query yield a report name?  This would be true if your DB stores a table with pre-defined report names. Otherwise a layout component reference or just a text item would suffice
