Hi all,

We are currently working on upgrade of Cognos EP  from 8.3 to 10.1. I would like to know the best practices and methods to migrate.

1. How to move analyst libraries, User groups and security and how to update the filesys.ini.
2. Contributor applications, need to deploy application by application or another method.

Please suggest and do the needful.

Cheers! To see suggestions and best practices.

Thanks,
AK

Hi Amritha,

There is an extensive section in the 10.1 Planning Install and Configuration guide that outlines the upgrade approach you should take.

Part 3, Chapter 6:

Cheers

A few things:

1. Make sure you have backups of everything prior to migrating.  This will ensure that you have disaster recovery abilities.

2. Usually the best practice is to test the upgrade with a new server environment.  However, this isn't always feasible.  If the intention is to upgrade existing 8.3 servers, take an infrequently used test / dev environment and perform an upgrade on that system.  This will help to identify any problems that you encounter that may be specific to your systems.  If you're using new 10.1 servers, then following the upgrade documentation to walk through an upgrade.

3. Fully test all business processes that would be executed during a normal business day.

Aside from these, you really just have to get your hands dirty with the upgrade to identify any issues usually.  If you run into road blocks contact IBM Cognos technical support and they'll help you through them.

Anyone else with thoughts?
