Cognos 10 install Frustrations - 3rd party guide anyone?

All,

I am hoping that someone can direct me to a 3rd party manual/documentation that give clear and concise A to Z instructions for installing C10.

Is it just me or is IBM's documentation about as clear as mud, Inaccurate all over the place and woefully lacking in detail?  :(

I have a support contract and I have been calling them, but with the way the documentation is written and how it doesn't match up with what the system tells me it feels like I'm calling support every other page and then have wait for them to get back to me.

And no I haven't had the Cognos admin class yet, my company has a moratorium on all travel until the end of the year at the earliest, so no training until then, (if then).  :'(

This is an upgrade from C8 to C10 and following the documentation and instructions from support here is what I have done so far.

1. Backed up and exported my C8 configuration.
2. Uninstalled Cognos 8
3. Created a copy of my C8 content store (MS-SQL) to Cognos10_Content_Store
4. Installed Cognos 10
5. Copied my exported C8 configuration to cogstartup.xml for C10
6. Started Cognos configuration and changed the necessary parameters such as content store location
7. Started Cognos 10, (which came up fine)
8. Installed the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Metric Server 10.1.0
Are there actually any instruction for setting this up other than the 3 sentences    IBM provides in the manual?  :(
9. Created the Metric Store per the instructions in the installation and configuration guide at the bottom of page 173 called Cognos10_Metric_Store
At this point I was unable to create a metric package as we have a custom java    security provider that had to be installed since I imported my C8 config it would    not let me setup myself up as an Administrator
10. Installed the custom java security provider
11. Because I wanted to use the Metric samples per IBM support instructions I created a second Metric content store for the samples as outlined in the Administration and Security Guide on page 94. Support told me that I have to a separate metric content store for "our" metric and the samples.

The instructions on page 94 tell me to use a data source called go_metrics, but it isn't there the only data sources listed are great_outdoors_sales and great_outdoors_warehouse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This isn't supposed to be this hard.  >:( >:(

Cheers,

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

You will need to follow the steps in setting up the samples in the Metrics Manager Getting Started Installation Guide:

https://cognos.hawaii.edu/cognos8/documentation/en/qrc_mm_inst.pdf

Look at page 66 onwards - there are great step-by-step instructions.

The physical database for the Metric Store is called GOMETRIC. The data source connection you create which points to the GOMETRIC database should be called go_metrics. Finally, the metric package based on this should be called GO Metrics.

Once you have set these up and configured your calendar, you can then restore the sample data into this metric store - again, the steps are all nicely documented.

Shout if you get stuck!

Best regards,

MF.
