dpr-err-2002 - cognos env freezes

Hi,

i am using cognos  8.4 fp2  , recently we are facing horrible issue in  our environment , could not find any root cause. The issue
is once in a day or twice in a day  environment freezes for 10 min , especially ibm admin is not launching , also especially when the user
launches portal pages it goes to hung status. some user pointing they are getting dpr-err-2002  ERROR. Also we could see some of the below errors
in this period.
dpr-err-2058 , dpr-err-2002, dpr-err-2077 , dpr-err-2056. architecture is

2 webserv er
5 dispatcher
1 pcm
1- scm
ram - 8 gb

Have any one of you faced this issue ? or just guide how can we proceed .. let me know if you have any questions.

First thing I'd look for is some system overload - this happens when too many requests are made all at once. At this stage, some will be queued. If your queue time-out is too long, then all the new requests will be queued while the queue executes one request at a time, so until this is released the system will feel hung.

Hi there

If this issue is consistent and happens at the same time of day and for only ten minutes, you need to look at the load characteristics of your Dispatchers and Content Manager servers.

Ask a few questions of the DB and IT as well if necessary
1.  Perform a load characteristic analysis of the server/s
E.g. http://www.automatedqa.com/products/testcomplete/supported-testing-types/load-testing/

2.  Find out what jobs are scheduled for this time of day.   You can use the search function in the scheduling console
3.  Of those jobs, which run heavy reports
4.  Of those reports, what type of reports are they
5.  Determine if these reports / Jobs can be scheduled after peak.

From a DBA perspective
6.  Determine what sessions are running and what load id being placed in the DB at this time
7.  Determine if the DBA is running any ETL or backups at this time.

From an IT perspective
8.  Ask whether there is any unusual or above average activity on the network at this time.

These are the types of questions Support would be asking you should you raise a ticket with them besides getting all the details about your environment and versions installed

Do you have any updates to your issue?  We are seeing very similar behaviour in our environment. A couple of times a week it is reporting that Cognos is "spinning".  After 10 minutes things return to normal. We also get the DPR-ERR-2002 during this time.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
