On a project in which we are creating reports against MSAS 2000 cube.Ã,  We have performance issues as far as response time when the report is 1st ran so my questions are:
1.)Have folks experienced slow response time in reports, built via RS, rendering, in which the data source is a MSAS cubes, if so what was done to resolve the issue?

2.)Have folks used or purchased new MSAS ODBO drivers that may have improved the response time between receiving the data from MSAS and C8 rendering the report, and if so where/who did you get the driver from?( I have checked the Microsoft site and could not find an ODBO driver to download)

Thank,

Chad,

Where is the bottleneck occuring? At the MSAS level or the C8 process level? Look at the C8 process threads in the task manager - does one spike to one CPUs power (4 CPU server = 25% per CPU) and sit there while rendering the report? If so, that's normal and yes, it sucks.

We had performance issues with regular Transformer cubes and C8.  Cubes were quite large and somewhat complex in their presentation.  They ran much quicker in native PowerPlay Web, but when used in ReportStudio they were dog slow.

Regards,

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for the insight, and yes it does spike just like you stated.Ã,
One question is this, how did your team get around the issue of the slow performance running the reports off of cubes in Reportstudio?

Thanks,

The work around was to make our cubes smaller and then hit the relational DB part of the framework for other parts of data.. It was a pretty poor workaround but we just couldnt get the cubes running quickly.

Cognos had some professional services staff help out, but they really didnt accomplish much.  Our report times were 45-90 seconds to pull a decent (high level) amount of data out of a cube and display like a dashboard.  Unaccetable when the same view in Powerplay web 7.3 would do it in 5-10 seconds.

Mike
