You are most likely having a problem connecting to the Content Store.
Check the log file 'crnserver.log'.

I am not sure how conversant you are with SQL server, the name of the SQL Server database that you enter in Cognos Configuration must be the name of a database under the 'databases' folder and not the name of the SQL Server group in case you happen to have a named installation of SQL Server

Hi Siva
The problem seems to be in the Content store.
Please check the content store configuration for correct parameters (DB server name, DB name,UserID and password). Also wait for some time (2-3 min) after the reportnet service starts and then open the cognos connection.

Also check the log file "crn.log" for the specific error messages. If it says the content manager failed to start then this problem is definitely because of wornd configuration of Content Store.

Earlier I had experienced the same error. I think this is something  about the content store service does not start properly or not started at all. If  you are running reportnet on windows o/s open the "Task manager" window and see whether "BIBusTkserver" process is running or not. In order to use the reportnet the above process and the "Cognosbootstrapper" process should be running.

Hope this helps
thanks & regards

one more reason could be that the database is could be windows mode authentication and not of mixed mode..

Are you using SQL 7 as content store? In this case... no way. You must have at least a MS-SQL 2000 to use as a content store for reportnet.

For later releases of ReportNet I think you need SQL Server 2000 SP3 and above.  I tried it recently without installing SP3 for SQL Server, and I couldn't get ReportNet to create the content store tables, although no errors were reported when saving the configuration or starting the service.

Something else to check is that you have installed the jce 1_2_2 cryptographic update.
