Hi Guys,
We are doing a Cognos project from scratch..

We have developed one FM model and published a package as DEV ( used for development purposes) with Datasource DEV.

For moving to Production,
Do i need to develop another FM model and another package pointing to the datasource PROD?

or can i use the same model and create a new package for PROD pointing to the datasource PROD (assuming all the tables in DEV and PROD datasource are in sync)

Would appreciate the reply..,

Thanks,
KR

For migrating your Model and Reports to Any other  environment.
Create the DSN for Dev environment and publish the package there once the package is published you can create a DSN for Prod environment with the same name and migrate the same package using Export and import from Cognos Connection.

Or you can use Tools like MotiCI for Migration

Hi Arpit,
Do u mean to say that Model would be only one and Datasource alone would be changed ( PROD in case of Production, DEV in case of development) in creating a new package for production?

Thanks,
KR

See you also dont need to create a new package

Example
Suppose your Database name for devloment is Adventure Works. So you can create a DSN Named "Adventure Works" and start building your model.Once your are done with the model you would publish the package in a particular folder of the Devenviorment.

In Production enviorment you can create the DSN with the same name but poiting to production database. Now to use the model originally created you can export the complete folder from dev enviorment and import in the prod.Hence as you have created Data Source with the same name package would automaticlly point to Prod database.

So you dont need to created Seprate models for both.

In case you still have doubts you can give me a call.I will explain you the process

Hope this helps  :)
