How to reduce the size of excel file

I have a report in report studio, if i save it in excel format it comes up with 126MB size, but the same report in impromptu poduces output in excel just 26MB. Is there any i can reduce the size of the excel file in RS (i am running cognos 8.1 in windows environment)

(sorry by mistake it is posted in FM section)  I have posted this back in RS Section.

you can set the export to Excel 2007 if u are comfortable with the same,As using Excel 2007 reduces the Size by a considerable amount

Basically, cognos by default stores the .xsl files as .mht. And size of mht files are always bigger, because it carries other plug-in files in order to open the .xsl files without having MS office installed.

However, you can change the setting and define RSVP.FILE.EXTENSION.XLS = TRUE, so the reports would be saved as .xls in your target location.

As Arpitagrawal9 suggested, Excel 2007 file size is much lesser.
