[RS] - C8 - Creating a breadcrumb trail (drill trail) of a Dimension in C8 RS

Let's say I have a simple list report in Report Studio with a few columns, and a Dimension (DMR) as a Section Header.  When the user drills down on the section header, I would like to have their drill trail appear in the report header.  I can get the value that they drilled on to appear in the header, but I want to expose them to the entire drill trail that they've gone on.  My DMR has many levels, so this would be helpful for them to know where they are at.

The drill trail/breadcrumb trail does not have to be drillable itself, it is just for display purposes.  Has anybody implemented this, or know if this is possible in C8 Report Studio?

thanks,
mseidler

Assuming that what you're looking for is behavior similar to that in PowerPlay Client, the answer is that it is not currently possible.  We recently opened a Cognos Support case checking into this type of drill-down functionality, and were told that there is no way to preserve the parent level when drilling into a dimension.  On the bright side, we were told this is an enhancement (#502557) being worked for a possible future C8 release.

We also raised this with Cognos and got the same response, so fingers crossed

Hi all,

I would like to ask how you managed to get the drilled item to appear on the header.

Actually what I am trying to do, is to put this value on top of the relevant column in the crosstab so that there is a feedback as to what the user had previously selected. The reson for this is that my drill path is quite long and more than one items are drillable in the same crosstab.

Thanks in advance,

Using Great Outdoors Company - As a simple example, you can take Retailer type and put it in your list report in the report body.Ã,  Put a crosstab in the report header (it should use the same query as the list), and insert Retailer (root members only).Ã,  Enable drill down, and the drilled item from the list should appear in the crosstab.
